Students often dread tuition and dislike the sight of their tutors because it would mean that a study session is about to start once again. This problem can be worsened if tutors choose to conduct the lesson in a boring way. This will definitely affect the student’s passion towards studying and subsequently, his results may be indirectly affected. Therefore a healthy relationship between the child and his tutors is certainly essential to prevent inefficient and mundane tuition lessons.

Firstly, both the student and the tutor have to develop mutual respect towards each other. This is definitely the key step to good communication. And with good communication, it is certainly easier to attain good relationship between the student and tutor. Therefore, the student and tutor have to both cultivate the habit of listening to each other and be willing to share their views.

As we all know, the best way to show mutual respects is by listening to each other. Hence, the student should always be attentive and listen to the teacher when he is explaining. It is understood that students tend to have short attention span and it is also forgivable. However that is not an excuse to be distracted as short breaks will be given by the tutor when he sees that the student can no longer absorb. Therefore, the student should always try his best to focus throughout the lesson.

In addition, the student should tell the tutor beforehand if he has any special requirements or preferences on how he would like the tutor to conduct the lesson. This is so that the tutor can make preparation before the lesson and thus make the learning more effective and less mundane for the student. Also, the student has to be truthful to the tutor on his learning abilities, for example, he must not say that he understand when he does not. Most students choose to remain silent when they are unable to understand the concept that the tutor taught them. This should be prevented, instead, the student should voice up when he does not understand. This helps to ensure efficient teaching and learning.

By having a good relationship with the tutor, it would mean than the student now feels more comfortable with the tutor. This will naturally prompt the student to ask more questions and clear his doubts more willingly. This will then solve the common problem faced by most of the tutors, that is, many students do not want to speak up and question the tutors when they are unclear or have doubts about certain concepts.

Likewise, the tutor should also listen to the student when he is asking questions. This will make the student feel more confident. Also, the tutor has the responsibility to tell the child what he expects of him. Reprimand is to be avoided; communication and discussion are more viable options. This is so that the child can understand where and why he is wrong and be willing to change for better.

Also, the tutor has to know the student’s learning ability, interests and needs in order to understand the student better. In this way, the tutor will be able to come up with a most efficient way of teaching. Also, he should try to avoid bombarding the student with information. This will not only confuse the student, he may also be unable to absorb what the tutor taught. The tutor should instead engage him in two-way discussions so that the student can understand and apply the concepts taught better.

Short breaks are also necessary as most students are unable to concentrate and focus fully throughout the whole lesson. Therefore, the tutor should give the student break when he sees that they are already losing their focus. In addition, tutor should never be stingy with praises! Praise the student when he performs well, for instance, when he did all the homework assigned or when he is able to answer the tutor’s question. This will definitely boost his self – confidence and prompt him to do better in his exams.

Last but not least, both the child and tutor have to show their passions and the positive attitude towards learning and teaching. This is will be the most important factor which drives the lesson going as both parties will definitely feel more motivated. I believe that all these simple changes will help to develop good relationship between the tutor and child. Also, it will make the lesson a fun, interactive and efficient one!

As such, having a great tuition lesson and good tutor-student relationship is like a cycle. When the child does not dread the tuition lesson, relationship between the child and tutor will gradually be improved. And with good relationship with the tutor, lessons will never be boring and learning will always be at the peak.

Every child is tasked to obtain good school results. Have you ever wondered if parents and tutors can also contribute to helping the child in getting excellent school results? In fact, a good parent-tutor relationship can assist the child in obtaining good results! This is because both parents and tutors have the same objective – to educate the child.

We often encourage good relationship between parents and their children; and tutors with their students; however the relationship between parents and tutors are often neglected. This is disappointing as it is essential for parents and tutors to have good relationship in order to work together in assisting the child to obtain better exam results. Also, it is crucial for both the parents and the tutor to have mutual trust. This is because parents have to trust the tutor in order to entrust their child to the tutor. Compared to the parents, tutors gain the child’s trust easier and the child often opens up to his tutor. Thus, good parents-tutors relationship may also improve the parents’ relationship with their child. Therefore, it is of great importance that the parents build good relationship with the tutor.

There are few areas that both parents and tutors need to work on in building a trusting and open relationship to lead to better exam results for the child.

Firstly, there should be good communication between the parents and tutors. The parents and tutors must mutually decide on certain administration issues such as tuition fee, tuition timing and tuition venue. Both parties also have to stick to the agreement to prevent future disputes. Also, efficiency is essential as both parties may have very busy schedule. Next, parents should be able to discuss any problems with the tutors and vice versa. Arguments should be avoided at all cost. Parents should learn to contain their bossiness even though they are the one paying the tutor. Mutual respect is greatly encouraged.

Secondly, there should be mutual respect between the parents and the tutor. The parents should trust the tutor and not doubt their ability. As we know, all the tutors are definitely qualified and educated, thus parents should trust their teaching abilities and judgments without questioning them. This may help to prevent disputes. For instance, I believe that the tutor would not want the parents to interfere with the way they give lessons. Thus the parents should respect the tutor by trusting them. Likewise, the tutor should also respect the parents by listening to their suggestions if there are any. For example, the parents may discuss with the tutor if they find that the tutor’s way of teaching may not be appropriate for their child.

Thirdly, parents who naturally know their child better can contribute to the tuition by providing the tutor with certain relevant information of the child. For instance, they can contribute by discussing with the tutors what are the child’s likes and dislikes, and also the child’s learning ability. By doing so, we can ensure that the tutor will learn to communicate with the child better and conduct the lesson more efficiently.

Fourthly, parents and tutor should also get together to discuss about the child’s progress in his study occasionally. It will be good if it can be done at the end of every tuition session. However, monthly review might be good enough. With the monthly review being done consistently, the child’s progress in his study is constantly monitored, thus, it is easier to evaluate a more effective teaching which is suitable to the child. In this way, the child’s result will inevitably improve.

Last but not least, parents can also share some of the problems that their child is facing in their studies and give the tutor some feedback on their teaching method. This is so that the tutor can improve on their teaching method and make learning more efficient for the child. Tutors also have to be open and willing to accept constructive feedback and most importantly, act on it. At the same time, the tutor can also tell the parents what they observe about the child from the tuition session and advise them if there are any areas that need improvements. Also, tutors should always share good news about the child’s progress with the parents, for instance, when the child’s grade improved or when he performs well. This will strengthen the parents-tutor relationship. The parents will certainly feel happy and proud to hear these.

In conclusion, good parents and tutors relationship is definitely essential in improving the child’s exam result. It sends a clear, consistent and motivating message to the child that learning is very important. As a result, the child will be more motivated to study and he will benefit academically. Therefore, start building healthy and good relationship with your child’s tutors and see improvements in your child results and behavior!

Parents often fear that being their child’s buddy will cause them to less authoritative. However, is that really the case? Even if it is, is it really bad? Have you ever tried to break the barriers between you and your child? Have you ever wondered what is the best way to maintain good relationship with your child? The answer is by being his best friend! By being your child’s best friend, you can fully understand him. Furthermore, there are certainly more benefits to being your child’s best friend than just to understand them.

During the child’s growth stages, good communication with parents is definitely one of the most important aspects. In contrary, it is also the hardest to achieve. Hence, by being their best friends, you are now brought much closer to your child and some common problems faced will inevitably be resolved or prevented. Also, there will be no more generation gap between you and your child.

Firstly, being your child’s best friend leads to a smoother childhood growth process. Certain problems which may be faced by your child such as bullying, peer pressure, stress may also be tackled. These are definitely something you have experienced and you are definitely aware of the best methods to solve these problems. Hence, you can share your experiences with your child and assure him that these problems are normal and will ultimately be solved. Also, you are undoubtedly the best candidate to advise them on the methods to deal with these problems.

Secondly, as his best friend, your child will share everything with u instead of hiding them from you. Most children tend to be afraid to speak up in front of their parents. They also hide issues from their parents to prevent getting scolding. However, with the dual identity of being a parent and best friend, your child will now choose to open up to you and confide to you. In addition, your child will now choose to discuss any problems with you instead of hiding them from you. This would mean that he will have someone to turn to when he needs help and advice. This is of great importance as grave incidents such as suicides can be prevented. Root cause of the issue can also be addressed and resolved immediately. Also, this also helps to prevent reckless decision done by the child.

Thirdly, by being your child’s best friend, you actually help to mould him to a better person. This is because your child will definitely learn from the way you deal with problems. And this will inevitably help him to develop his mature character. This is definitely beneficial to him in the long run. He will be able to deal with anything maturely in the future as he is exposed to the correct way of resolving issues since young.

Fourthly, as your children’s best friend, you should listen to him instead of reprimanding him all the time like what most parents always do. When your child did something wrong, instead of scolding him, you should try to discuss the issue with him. This is more effective than making him admit he is at fault. Through open discussions, many disputes and misunderstanding can also be prevented. Also, being your child’s best friend, you respect him, you talk to him and you listen to him. The child will definitely feel more appreciated as they know that although they are a child, but their thoughts and opinions still matter to you. In this way, you also build a more trusting and stronger relationship between you and your child.

Fifthly, by having your child as your best friend, you can also share your problem with him. Although he may not be mature enough to give you any constructive advices or comments, however I believe that he will be there for you when you need him. In addition, your child may even be more obedient because he knows that you are very troubled. This may help to lighten your burden as you no longer need to worry about your child.

Lastly, your child may even gain academic benefits with you as his best pal. This is because, in a friendship, instead of receiving scolding, best friends encourage each other when one did not perform well in exams. This will in turn boost your child’s confidence and desire to study harder so as not to disappoint you. As a result, you may even see an improvement in his results.

In conclusion, being your child’s best friend will not only improve your relationship with him, you become an important part of your child’s childhood as he shares everything with you. You help to build a happy childhood for him with happy memories of you and him! So, break the barrier and be your child’s new best friend!

Do you think that your child is not working at her full potential and she is capable of greater achievements in her studies? A child develops attitudes towards learning from all the significant people in her life. You can gradually nurture her self-confidence and curiosity by providing guidance and resources, which helps invoke her interest in exploring new activities. Setting goals with boundaries and implementing reward system can help your child develop self confidence. She will eventually become more independent, capable and self-reliance.

Generally, children succeed in school and in life when their parents use affirmative words to motivate and encourage them. Therefore, parents must work together with their child to teach them skills and values that are not included in school curriculum programs. If your child has a fixed mindset whereby she believes that her personal attributes will not change even when she puts in extra hard work and persistence then she will slowly lose confidence in her own abilities and start to avoid challenges. This results her making little effort even in her stronger areas and may cause failure to reach her full potential. We all know that children love to play. You can inspire your child by engaging her in various activities to see which of these can generate excitement in her and she will perform. This excitement makes the child want to learn more and will think that learning is fun and useful. By creating a fun and interesting learning environment that captures her attention, she will learn. You can encourage her to follow this passion, resulting in stronger desire to welcome challenges with less fear. When she managed to achieve smaller goals, she builds the confidence in herself and naturally, she will be self-motivated to learn more and set bigger goals.

When your child is engaged in an activity, allow ample time for her to stay focus without interruption. This will help her stay motivated and learn to work towards her goals even when facing minor setbacks. You can guide her along by giving her advice and direction but she still has to be independent to explore and make the decisions on her own. Generally, it is very tempting to offer to give her assistance if she is stuck somewhere. This is not helping her since you cannot be beside her all the time. You could let her understand the problem better by asking her to explain where the root of the problem is and ask her for suggestions. When the activity is accomplished, give her time to evaluate the activity again, allowing her to analyze and reflect on her success. In this way, she will know how to handle future challenges. Most importantly, you have to be patient throughout her learning process; being frustrated will affect the child’s emotions, leading her to become frustrated too which may result in losing interest for the new activity and may choose not to put in effort anymore even when she is very keen initially. In addition, you have to be enthusiastic throughout the learning process as well. Enthusiasm is contagious. Your child will naturally be concerned over things if they observe that they mean a lot to you. As parents, you should always inspire your child when she looks to you for guidance so that they have the desire to achieve and be the best person they can be.

Always remind your child of her talents and strong qualities, and praise her if she has accomplished a task, regardless big or small. Motivation through praise and success is the final step to inspire her to learn. You can praise her for her skills and assets which results in achieving her goal and not the outcome of the action. This helps to build her self-confidence and self-worth. For instance, if she learns to roller-blade, praise her on her coordination skills and her ability to balance instead of praising the fact that she has mastered roller-blading. Parental recognition plays an important role in motivating their child if she really strives for parental approval. Do also take note that a child’s confidence level can fluctuate high and low. When she meets with a difficult task, remind her of a time when she managed to overcome a difficult situation and bring her focus back on the things that went well so that she will be more self-assured.

A child will truly learn a skill or subject if she can try to teach another person. You can become her student instead, try letting her to teach you what she knows. From there, you could understand your child better and could even learn new things from her. A combination of good teaching strategies, parental recognition and consistent encouragements will work wonders for your child. Let us help our children to grow by feeling good about themselves. They will be more confident to use their potential talents to bring them to greater heights.

Thinking of how you can motivate your child to put in effort in his work so that he can perform up to his potential? It’s time to realize that these tactics do not work anymore.

Motivating your child is one of the most difficult parents’ responsibilities. What your child lacks is intrinsic motivation – motivation that comes from within. Trying to explain the advantages of getting an education or getting your child understand the importance of doing assignments so that he will get a better job ten years later is quite useless. If your child already feels miserable, giving him more assignments will not make him understand that putting in efforts now will result in a better life in the future.

Most of the children are not highly self-motivated and they need more motivation and teaching to get them learning. This is the case especially when a child failed to succeed some tasks assigned initially or if much hard work is required to achieve the goal. Parents play an important role in their child’s study habits and they should be responsible in inculcating good studying habits to their child. You can motivate your child by teaching him to set goals for himself; to focus on the small goals before going for the big ones. For instance, set a goal for your child to get Grade A in Science test before asking him to get a Grade A for the Final Year Exam. When smaller goals are achieved, it makes achieving bigger goals more attainable. Your child also gets to experience the possibility of achieving goals. If your child is doubtful, it is less likely that he will work hard towards it. People who set their own goals are more likely to achieve them so it is crucial to let your child be involved in the decision of making his goals. This allows him to feel that he owns the outcome. You should use words of encouragement that will best inspire your child and repeat a few times a day for better result. Try to make it a habit and use positive words every time. For example, “You are a fast learner”. “You are an intelligent child.” Can you imagine how your child will feel? Or how much it will help to boost the self-confidence of your child which will make him work even harder subconsciously? You will see the results in the next few weeks.

It is easier to keep your child motivated when a reward is offered to him. You should always celebrate with him such as bringing him to his favorite place when he achieved a goal. Knowing that his efforts are appreciated, his achievements are acknowledged and that he will be rewarded when goals are achieved will be an added incentive to make him work harder for the next goal.

However, if the goal is not achieved, spending time to share an inspiring story is very useful and effective. It is important for him to understand that a setback or disappointment is part of the journey and that lessons learnt from this failure will set path for future successes. Nevertheless, with the continuous words of encouragement, your child will be more confident to strive for the next goal.

Nevertheless, you have to lead by example. You are the role model for your child and so, you should never be double standards when you deal with him. Every child learns so much from adults and it is true that a child pick up both his good and bad habits from people around him. It will be more difficult for him to study if you are seen watching television programs while he has to work. On the other hand, a child who observes that adults being enthusiastic towards their work or learning and handle setbacks positively, he will follow them as role models too. He will be keen to learn and cope with failures better. Another important way to motivate your child is to discuss their homework with him. Spend some time asking and knowing more about the happenings in school and what will be expected of him on the next day. This helps you to understand him better in terms of his schoolwork as well as if he is enthusiastic about the various subjects taught.

In short, there are many effective parenting strategies that can be implemented without resorting to punishment or bribery. Most importantly, you should not criticize them but use positive discipline to provide constructive feedback to encourage growth. It should not be difficult anymore to motivate your child if planning, involvement and encouragement are used. Once you know what you want your child to become in the future, you should have a action plan that allows you to achieve the outcome.

One of the single best strategies you can employ to improve your productivity and your grades is to develop the habit of laser-focused study. Many people like to brag about how good they are at multi-tasking, but the fact is that multi-tasking is not nearly as effective as focusing on one thing at a time. In 2008, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) published a study which showed that multi-tasking lowers your IQ even more than smoking marijuana. If you’re not studying with laser-focus, then you might as well be studying while you are high. Here are a few tips to help you develop this crucial habit.

Eliminate Distractions - When you study, you should eliminate all distractions. Turn off your cell phone. Turn off your email notifications. You might even turn off your computer if you think you might be tempted to browse over to it. Although this sounds harsh, it will actually save you a lot of time. When our mind is focused on something and it gets taken off-track, it takes 20 minutes on average to get back to the same level of focus. You can see why multi-tasking is so detrimental: if it takes 20 minutes to become fully engrossed in a task, then multi-tasking never lets us achieve that.

Carve Out Blocks of Time - Rather than multi-tasking, what you want to achieve is a sequence of laser-focused tasks. If you need to study history and math, then you should carve out two 45-minute blocks of time. Each block will be solely dedicated to that subject. So for the first block of time, you will tell yourself that you will focus on and think ONLY about math for 45 minutes. After the 45 minutes are up, you can take a 10 or 15 minute break. Walk around, grab a snack; do something that takes your mind off of your studies. Then you will go back to your desk and commit to only studying and thinking about history for the next 45 minutes. This may sound grueling, but if you can discipline yourself, you will find that you can accomplish as much in those 45 minute blocks than you will have been able to with hours and hours of distracted study.

Take Breaks - Just as important as it is to focus, it is equally important to let your mind relax between the blocks of laser-focused study. If you try to push and push and push, eventually your mind will grow weary and tired, and it won’t be anywhere close to its peak effectiveness. It is a good idea to take a ten minute break at least every hour or 90 minutes. Let your mind relax. You might give yourself a small reward or treat for the last hour of work that you achieved. After you have regrouped, you will be much more effective.

Once you try these strategies, you’ll wish you had been using them all along. You will not only be able to get work done in a faster period of time, but the work you complete will be of a much higher quality.

Parents often wonder if it’s a good idea to hire private tuition services for their children. This is true because many parents have a hard time deciding if their children or teenagers would benefit from using private tuition services. This is especially true because today’s tougher economic conditions are forcing many parents to closely scrutinise their spending habits.

Here are some reasons why parents should consider hiring private tuition services for their children despite today’s tougher economic conditions:

Children who use private tuition services often receive more specialised attention from a teacher who knows what he is doing. This has several benefits that make hiring tuition services well worth the cost. For example, children often benefit from specialised attention from their teachers because it allows them to concentrate on difficult concepts that make learning some subjects difficult. Furthermore, many children benefit from the specialised attention they receive because they can also ask their teachers more specific questions about concepts they are having difficulty learning. These two benefits alone make hiring private tuition services worth the cost.

However, children also benefit academically from receiving personalised attention from their tutors.
This is true because most children and teenagers feel comfortable learning new concepts if the know that there is someone around who can help them if they don’t understand everything that is being presented to them. As a result, receiving personalised attention from tutors can be a big advantage for children and teens who are learning difficult subjects in math and the sciences.

Furthermore, many parents should consider hiring private tuition services for their children or teens because it can also help their children organise their study time more effectively. This is the case because most tutors present a structural framework that can help most children learn how to organise their study time more efficiently. This can help students do better in school because they can learn how to effectively study for exams without feeling overwhelmed by their workloads.

In addition, parents should also consider hiring private tuition services for their children because it can also help students use what they have learned in the classroom in real world situations. This can help teenagers do well in the sciences and in math courses because it can show them how to take the abstract ideas that they learn in these courses and apply them to real life situations. It can also help younger students do better in math and the sciences because it teaches them how to visualize and use abstract concepts outside the classroom.

Finally, many children also benefit from having a trained teacher on-call whenever they need help with their studies. This is the case because many children and teenagers often feel overwhelmed with the amount of homework and studying they have to complete to succeed in school. As a result, many children and teenagers can benefit from having a trained teacher on-call whenever they need help because it can take much of the stress out of trying to finish one’s homework on time.

Choosing the correct environment is one of that most important factors of any study session. Studying is a process that takes great concentration and mental prowess, which are often dependant on a suitable environment for study. A person can benefit greatly from any study session by following these practical tips for a conducive study environment.

Quiet Study Environments Keep Minds Focused - Quiet study environments are very important for people who wish to stay focused. Outside noises, such as people talking and phones ringing, can pull people out of their intense study habitats. Other distractions, such as television and radio, will cause people to focus on the distractions and give them an excuse to procrastinate on the important task at hand. Eliminating all distractions will help a person stay focused and make sure that they are registering everything that they are reading.

A Comfortable Environment Makes For Comfortable Study - Being comfortable is an important environmental aspect essential to a conducive study environment. When a person is uncomfortable, it draws their focus from studying to the thought of being uncomfortable. A person who is studying should make sure their body is sitting in a comfortable spot, such as a plush chair, so that their body doesn’t begin to ache. These aches and pains, while minor, can become a person’s focus and cause them to lose track of the material they are studying.

An Environment Filled With Like-minded Individuals Helps The Study Process - Sometimes it’s better to study in a group environment. If a person decides on a group environment study session, they should make sure that everyone they may communicate with is studying the same material. Studying with like-minded individuals can help the learning process and provide a person with other sources of information that may help them with their learning adventures.

A Prepared Study Environment Creates A Prepared Studier - It’s a good idea to make sure a studier’s environment is prepared with the necessary equipment. Pens, pencils, notes, paper and reference materials are a good thing to have handy. Having food items at a person‘s disposal, such as water and a snack, are a good way to be prepared when thirst or hunger decide to strike. Having a prepared environment means less trips to find needed items and allows for a focused and unbroken study session.

The environment that a person studies in often dictates the focus and concentration of the studier. Following these four practical tips for a conducive study environment will keep a studier operating at the best of their ability.

Getting the most out of an education is essential to lifelong success, and learners who pursue their learning effectively will develop better qualifications, earn higher marks, and find themselves more qualified for that dream job than many others. Consequently, it is important to develop the habits of highly effective students early on. This resource is offered to help students learn how to make themselves more effective and to guide parents in leading their children in becoming better learners.

First, effective students never bite off more than they can chew. In other words, it is important for students not to fill up their schedule with too many activities. Each extracurricular pursuit, job, and other hobby or responsibility takes away valuable time that could be devoted to mastering a certain subject or skill. Of course, it is not a good idea for most students to abandon all of their activities except for school, but it is wise to get involved with only a few extras that are really loved instead of loading down a schedule with so many activities that there is hardly any time left over for schoolwork.

Secondly, effective students do not wait until the last minute to work on a project. Knowing that a deadline is weeks or even months away, effective students will break up their assignments into manageable portions and complete them slowly over time. Slow, steady progress gives the student a better ability to retain information and make sure an assignment is up to the highest standards before it is handed in.

Third and related to the second point above, effective students will work on improving their time management skills. Setting up a personal schedule and then sticking to it helps students realize how much time they really have and keeps them from committing to more than they are able to do.

Fourth, effective students will find or create a designated study space where they can work quietly and efficiently. Some of the biggest impediments to academic success are distractions of various kinds, so effective students will set up study areas where these distractions are kept to a minimum. This may involve turning off the cell phone to avoid text messages and calls, ignoring email, closing the door to the study room, and more.

Fifth, effective students have parents and other adults in their lives who will look out for them and encourage them to develop these habits even when they do not feel like it. Setting rules that there can be no play until homework is finished and other similar such standards can do wonders for making student more effective.

Finally, the effective student realizes that he or she cannot do it alone and looks for help from a personal tutor. Parents should be aware that investing in a tutor is one of the best ways they can spend their money on a child’s education. Trusting a reliable company to help match the best tutors with their students is the best way to find tutors that can all but ensure success in the academic arena.

There are several basic steps children, parents and school officials should take in cases of suspected bullying, no matter what the country or culture. Children need to be allowed to speak out and expect action taken when they report bullies, or any other unsafe situation. In this vein, the first step for helping your child deal with bullies at school is to get involved, and talk to your child about their day. Pay attention for red flags that warn of trouble.

Some red flags that may show a pattern of bullying include:

A child who comes home injured without a reasonable explanation;

A child who comes home missing property they coveted;

A child who is depressed or seems fearful of school; or

A child who complains of being teased, picked on or targeted in any way by one or more of their peers.

If you identify bullying, the first course of action should be to share your concerns with your child’s school. Parents and school officials need to work together to help the victim child. This can include meetings and mediation between the children. If this would be too embarrassing for the victim or the bully, or could escalate the situation, the parents of all children involved should meet privately to explore the situation and come up with solutions.

Remember, if the situation seems serious, take it seriously. Never encourage your child to fight back physically, or suggest they simply “toughen up”. Encourage your child to talk about their experiences, and explore counseling if desired.

Steps children can take to deal with bullies at school include:

Avoiding contact with the bully, avoiding being alone where possible;

Working on self-confidence building exercises; and

Practising how to react to teasing and name-calling, or even more threatening situations, at home with a parent.

Kids targeted by bullies shouldn’t take the bus or walk home from school, even with other friends. Other children are no substitute for parental or official supervision, and a child can be assaulted in front of their peers just as easily as walking alone. Children in worrisome situations should have their parents bring them to and from school, or carpool with trusted friends. That said, your child can help protect themselves from the mental and physical effects of bullying by surrounding themselves with their friends at lunch, recess and between classes.

Alternately, if you suspect your child is doing the bullying, talk to your child. Bullies are often just insecure kids, and may be feeling out of control in their emotions. The bully should not be approached as a “bad” kid; however, the child must be disciplined and taught proper social interaction.

Children need emotional guidance like all other forms of guidance, and if you feel the situation is beyond what you can provide as a parent, seeking professional counseling locally is a must to prevent a potential tragedy.
