Maintaining Healthy Relationship With Your Tutors

Students often dread tuition and dislike the sight of their tutors because it would mean that a study session is about to start once again. This problem can be worsened if tutors choose to conduct the lesson in a boring way. This will definitely affect the student’s passion towards studying and subsequently, his results may be indirectly affected. Therefore a healthy relationship between the child and his tutors is certainly essential to prevent inefficient and mundane tuition lessons.

Firstly, both the student and the tutor have to develop mutual respect towards each other. This is definitely the key step to good communication. And with good communication, it is certainly easier to attain good relationship between the student and tutor. Therefore, the student and tutor have to both cultivate the habit of listening to each other and be willing to share their views.

As we all know, the best way to show mutual respects is by listening to each other. Hence, the student should always be attentive and listen to the teacher when he is explaining. It is understood that students tend to have short attention span and it is also forgivable. However that is not an excuse to be distracted as short breaks will be given by the tutor when he sees that the student can no longer absorb. Therefore, the student should always try his best to focus throughout the lesson.

In addition, the student should tell the tutor beforehand if he has any special requirements or preferences on how he would like the tutor to conduct the lesson. This is so that the tutor can make preparation before the lesson and thus make the learning more effective and less mundane for the student. Also, the student has to be truthful to the tutor on his learning abilities, for example, he must not say that he understand when he does not. Most students choose to remain silent when they are unable to understand the concept that the tutor taught them. This should be prevented, instead, the student should voice up when he does not understand. This helps to ensure efficient teaching and learning.

By having a good relationship with the tutor, it would mean than the student now feels more comfortable with the tutor. This will naturally prompt the student to ask more questions and clear his doubts more willingly. This will then solve the common problem faced by most of the tutors, that is, many students do not want to speak up and question the tutors when they are unclear or have doubts about certain concepts.

Likewise, the tutor should also listen to the student when he is asking questions. This will make the student feel more confident. Also, the tutor has the responsibility to tell the child what he expects of him. Reprimand is to be avoided; communication and discussion are more viable options. This is so that the child can understand where and why he is wrong and be willing to change for better.

Also, the tutor has to know the student’s learning ability, interests and needs in order to understand the student better. In this way, the tutor will be able to come up with a most efficient way of teaching. Also, he should try to avoid bombarding the student with information. This will not only confuse the student, he may also be unable to absorb what the tutor taught. The tutor should instead engage him in two-way discussions so that the student can understand and apply the concepts taught better.

Short breaks are also necessary as most students are unable to concentrate and focus fully throughout the whole lesson. Therefore, the tutor should give the student break when he sees that they are already losing their focus. In addition, tutor should never be stingy with praises! Praise the student when he performs well, for instance, when he did all the homework assigned or when he is able to answer the tutor’s question. This will definitely boost his self – confidence and prompt him to do better in his exams.

Last but not least, both the child and tutor have to show their passions and the positive attitude towards learning and teaching. This is will be the most important factor which drives the lesson going as both parties will definitely feel more motivated. I believe that all these simple changes will help to develop good relationship between the tutor and child. Also, it will make the lesson a fun, interactive and efficient one!

As such, having a great tuition lesson and good tutor-student relationship is like a cycle. When the child does not dread the tuition lesson, relationship between the child and tutor will gradually be improved. And with good relationship with the tutor, lessons will never be boring and learning will always be at the peak.
